The Other Side of This

There are only 3 weeks of classes left, and most of the elections around campus are finally over. For those of you who didn’t know, I was one of the candidates who ran for Vice President Communications for the University Students’ Council. So I am writing this post from the perspective of someone who ran in an election, instead of someone who came in from the other side. This is actually quite the experience. If you asked me a year ago if I would have EVER done it, I would have laughed at you because I was not that type of person. But this past year, I’ve grown so much and this experience as well has grown me as well.

This was an amazing election.

I’ll admit that the announcement of our new USC President was slightly anticlimactic, but thats okay because we officially have a new USC President!! Congratulations to Adam Fearnall!

I’m sure you will do an absolutely phenomenal job. Over the past two weeks you have demonstrated a lot of knowledge, passion, and energy, and I look forward to seeing what next year will bring for us.

As for the other presidential candidates:

Claire, Logan, and John you have all done an absolutely amazing job over the past few weeks. You’ve kept pushing and trying your best. You weren’t afraid to put yourselves out there by voicing your opinions and your ideas. You’re all absolutely phenomenal people and I really hope you all try to stay involved, although I know some of you are graduating. I hope that all of you take your passion and determination with you wherever you go because it’s definitely an admirable quality.

Also, for everybody else who ran for a position you too were amazing. Juggling school, running your own campaign, AND trying to reach out to students on your own is a tough job. You all managed to do it. We had so many great candidates this year and I’m sure that everyone who was elected will be doing a great job! To those who didn’t get a position on the USC or their faculty council you’re still absolutely phenomenal people. Keep at it. Stay involved. We’d love to see more of you!

Thanks to all candidates for running and for giving Western students a broader range of personalities and ideas to vote for. You all did such a phenomenal job and you were able to prove that Western cares. Without all of you I don’t think as many students would have come out to vote but you all managed to reach out and get students involved.

Now go take a much needed weekend and get some R & R. You all deserve it!
